Single dwelling, Bass Hill

Bold, definitive masses distinguished through finish materials enable this utterly contemporary home to reflect the best of minimalistic modernity on its leafy site in Bass Hill. The warmth of the timber and the sleek black marble of the lower façade tie the ground floor into the leafy shadows and pull back to reveal the crisp white box that appears to almost float above them. The black marble provides the perfect counter point to the white render, falling below as if only a shadow. The hardness of these horizontally expressed tones is balanced by the vertical timber cladding.

Glazing is minimalistic and purposeful. Framing views and captures the best of the sun and breezes. An entertainer’s dream, this home draws you in and through the house with it open-plan layout, inviting you into the rear landscape. A glorious lap pool and level landscaped yard complete the ground floor.

Looking back at the rear of the building, the delicately balanced massing spreads across the site through the emphasis of both the horizontal and vertical planes, with black window frames evoking the original essence of the design as it once was lines on paper. The absence of structure from this view further heightens the sense of lightness and floating of the first floor, and curiously beckons you towards it. The roof top terrace enjoys some of the best views across Sydney, and is perfect for entertaining, or simply just taking a moment to oneself in blissful seclusion.
