As we recognise the distinct values of heritage architecture, Concave embodies our belief in preserving heritage. Modern meets the past in a harmonic architecture that integrates contemporary elements into a historic design. Concave is an extension to an existing townhouse in one of Sydney’s oldest suburbs, Surry Hills. The extension is added to the rear of the existing heritage house that remained intact. The design focused mainly on the play of materials, as the design celebrates the use of timber as an ageing element to complement the existing structure over time. The angled openings resemble the intended design of contemporary spaces covered with timber, an authentic Australian material reflecting a harmony between architecture and heritage.
